Magazine Analysis - Ne-yo

In order to achieve a better understanding of the conventions of magazine adverts I am conducting some research into well-known artist's previous adverts. I hope to gain some good ideas that I can use for my own media product.

I am analysing Ne-Yo's magazine advert for his album 'R.E.D'. This closely follows conventions for a magazine advert.

The main feature of the advert is the large sans-serif font stating who the artist is and the title of the album. The colour choices on the black background makes the font stand out, making the audience who may be scanning through a magazine spot it quickly. The writing is all bold and in large capital white letters; again this makes the words and important information stand out dramatically against the black background.
The image of Ne-Yo from the front cover of his album links his magazine advert and digipak link together, this creates links for the audience of his marketing products as they are able to see the magazine advert and his digipak and know they belong to the same artist. This technique makes for good advertising as if just the cover of the album was shown to people they will immediately know who the artist is and who the album.

Another convention that this advert closely follows is the display of the record label the artist is signed to, the website links to websites where to find the album and places that the music can be downloaded from.
