Changes

We originally planned on having a male actor in our piece however when we started filming and editing the footage we didn't think the character fitted into the image we wanted to create. So we have decided to not use the footage with Jake and changed the story line to female only.

Day of Filming review

Tammy, the actors and I met up at around 12:00 at the filming location. Once we arrived we set up the camera and assemble the tripod. During thi whilst the actors made the final adjustment's to their costumes.
Once this was complete we refered back to our risk assessment and ensured that the area was safe for us to complete our filming.
Luckily our filming went well and we only had a few minor issue. The only issue that we had was the camera's battery went flat, however we quickly resolved this issue as we had a spare fully charged battery. After viewing our footage, the lighting was a little dark in some shots, as it was a cloudy day. This can also be resolved during the editing stage by adjusting the exposure and contrast.

Overall, we largely managed to stick to our filming schedule, resulting in us being finished and packing up the equipment at roughly 2:45pm. Although, we didn't mangage to film all the required shots. However, we have arranged to meet up again to film the necessary shots when everybody is available.

Preparation for Filming

Today after our media lesson, we collected our equipment (this included a tripod, canon 700D camera, two batteries, battery charger and SD card). I took the camera and tripod home and tested the equipment to make sure it worked properly and charged the batteries, leaving us better prepared for the day of filming as we know that all the equipment is ready to use. Also in this time I had chance to get familiar with how the tripod worked; allowing me to have better knowledge on the day of filming.

To give us more time to film our music video, we have decided to bring our filming forward to 12pm instead of the original 2:15pm as we had a free day off school that allowed all members involved in filming to be present and would allow us a longer time filming with a greater chance of filming more shots than we may have done so previously.

Purchasing props

We had to buy some props for our music video. We bought two bandanas (red and black) and two balacalavas (black) to be worn by the female actors.
When they arrived we tried them on and made any adjustments needed to ensure filming went as smoothly as possible.

For another scene we needed some bubble gum for one of the actors to pop in a close up camera shot. We purchased this from our local supermarket before taking some practice shots to ensure it created the desired effect.
Also, we did some practice shots with one of the actors sisha pens to see how much smoke was made.

Location Revisit

Tammy and I went back to the location where we were filming to take more photos and to plan which shots would be taken in each area; this made us better prepared on the day of filming.

When we first visited the location we struggled to find an easy way down to our desired location. However, when we revisited the location we found a safe and easy way to access the location due to a longer visit.

Filming Schedule

We have written a filming schedule for when we start filming on Saturday 24th. By creating this schedule we will stay on task and remember to film each of the shots required. However, this is just an estimate as some shots may take longer as they may require more retakes or we may have to adjust slots if we think that they aren't right.

Practice Makeup

We did a practice of how we want our makeup to look on our actors. We tried two different eyeshadows, one dark and a lighter one. We preferred the lighter one as it had a more feminine edge that we were trying to achieve.

The red lipstick was the right shade and will represent the characters in the way we want it to.

Risk Assessment for Filming

As a pair we created a risk assessment. By doing this we have identified possible risks and how we can prevent them and ensure that all members participating and equipment is kept out of harm.

Costume Shots

Digipak Mockup

I made a sample of how my digipak would look if I was to use similar photography. By doing this I was hoping to ensure that my photos fitted the artists star image and promoted her brand appropriately.

Recce Shots

Tammy and I visited our locations of potential filming to try and decide which one would be suit the image we are attempting to create. Below are the pictures and the reasoning behind our choices.

We looked at Toton Sidings train track as a potential location for our music video. This area has been disused for many years and has a run down, derelect feel; which is what we are going for. Also, there are unused train carriages that we would have access to that would allow us for a good back drop for our music video.

Toton Sidings is local so is easy to get to if we needed to refilm anything and as it isn't used nobody will be moving the surrondings things will still be the same if we return to film, creating continuity within our filming.

Magazine Mock Up

I have created what I would like my magazine advert for my magazine to look like.

I have chosen to have a close up image of a girls face to represent the artist Kehlani. I want the image to represent the artist as very feminine and natural. Therefore her makeup will be very simple and basic. Also, I want her hair to be in braids as this keeps a very natural look.

The person I have chosen to do my music video is Ellie Wakelin. She is a young girl who wears very little makeup normally and has long hair that would be easy to braid. She is currently studying at school for her GCSE's but doesn't have any major commitments; this makes her a very good candidate for my magazine text.

Hand Drawn Digipak Mockup

I drew the types of images I would like to have on my digipak.

Top Centre Image:
This is the front cover of my digipak. I have placed centre focus on the artist to create star image. On this image there will be the artists name, title of the album and a parental advisory warning logo.

Top Right Image:
This is the back panel of my digipak and will have the model in a 'praying' position with the titles of songs next to her. Also I have added a bar-code and production company logo as these are conventional of a digipak.

Top Left Image:
This will be on the inside of the leaflet found in CDs and will be a close up of the female model with a bandana over her mouth. This image will have direct address with the audience again creating star image.

Bottom Left Image:
This image is of a tree and will be mirrored with special thanks and copy right information on.

Bottom Centre Image:
This is the CD holder and will have a CD in as well as the title of the album.

Bottom Right Image:
This image will be used to create star image and is of the model smiling. This creates a playful edge to the digipak.

Story Board

Tammy and I created a story board of our shot by shot ideas for our final media product. We will attempt to stick as closely as possible to these but in filming we may slightly change if we believe the images don't work.

Lyric Analysis

To be able to possibly make connections between the visuals and the lyrics we have decided to analyse the lyrics to 'Gangsta'. This song is the soudtrack for the film Suicide Squad.

This particular song is used to describe the relationship between two of the characters, Harley Quinn and The Joker.

I need a gangsta
To love me better
Than all the others do
To always forgive me
Ride or die with me
That's just what gangsters do
I'm fucked up, I'm black and blue
I'm built for it, all the abuse
I got secrets, that nobody, nobody knows
I'm good on, that pussy shit
I don't want, what I can get
I want someone, with secrets
That nobody, nobody, nobody knows
I need a gangsta
To love me better
Than all the others do
To always forgive me
Ride or die with me
That's just what gangsters do
My freakness is on the loose
And running, all over you
Please take me to places, that nobody, nobody knows
You got me hooked up on the feeling
You got me hanging from the ceiling
Got me up so high I'm barely breathing
So don't let me, don't let me, don’t let me, don't let me go
I need a gangsta
To love me better
Than all the others do
To always forgive me
Ride or die with me
That's just what gangsters do

*End of song*

Lyric Analysis:
"I need a gangsta"- This line could be a metaphor that the artist wants a loyal relationship like a gangsta has with their gang.

"Ride or die with me" - This verb phrase implies that she wants someone who is committed to her throughout every part of their relationship.

"I'm built for it, all the abuse" - This line demonstrates that she has become immune to all of the abuse and become a tough female in the process.

"I don't want, what I can get" - She's selective and wants someone unique or special. Also, she has a certain person in mind.

"That's just what gangsters do" - She sees herself as a gangster and states that is natural behaviour for them to exhibit.

"Got me up so high I'm barely breathing" "You got me hooked up on the feeling" - This could be a metaphor for drug use. Love is often referred to as a drug and that she is addicted to the feeling that love has provided her with.

Mood Board Inspirations

We created a mood board of our ideas. By doing this we were able to gather our ideas and present to them to our target audience more efficently.

Inspirations for initial ideas

We have taken inspiration from a number of music videos. Some of the shots in the music videos below are what we would like to incorporate into our own final product.
